How to break curses & how to be blessed #1

  • Why are there thousands of Christians that secretly carry around heavy burdens?
  • Why do many Christians suffer from diseases and problems, and experience no deliverance, although they pray a lot and read the Bible diligently?
  • Why do they not triumph in their faith? And why can they not rest in the peace of God?
  • Why do many sincere Christians struggle desperately in prayer and yet do not attain sanctification and rebirth?
  • What is the real cause of unbelief in the churches – despite all the preaching and prayers?

We get answers to these questions in the following Bible passages:

to open their eyes, that they may turn from darkness to light and from the dominion of Satan to God, that they may receive forgiveness of sins and an inheritance among those who are sanctified by faith in Me!

Acts 26:18

But if our gospel is veiled, it is veiled in them that perish; In unbelievers, whose senses have been blinded by the god of this present age, so that the bright light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, does not shine on them.

2. Corinthians 4:3-4

for our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world rulers of the darkness of this world time, against the spiritual [powers] of wickedness in the heavenly [regions].

Ephesians 6:12

In light of these verses, we can answer the questions as follows:

  1. The problem is that the human eyes are closed and not aware of the cunning schemes of the devil. The human senses and thoughts are still blinded.
  2. Furthermore, curses work. Most Christians don’t know how to pray exactly, or what kind of prayer is required to break these curses. However, prayer is necessary to break these curses and replace them with blessings.

Proverbs 26:2 says that an undeserved curse does not come to pass. That means that there is a deeper cause behind every curse affecting our lives.

Possible causes of curses include:
  • acknowledging and worshiping false gods = idolatry
  • any form of occultism
  • Disrespect for parents (Ephesians 6:1-4)
  • any kind of oppression and injustice done to others, especially against the weak and helpless
  • all kinds of sexual practices that are unnatural, sinful and immoral
  • Antisemitism
  • leading a strict, religious, legal life without revelation
  • a carnal life / life in the flesh
  • departing from the faith
  • Theft and false testimony (Zechariah 5:1-3, Malachi 3:8-9 and Haggai 1,4-6)
  • when authorities or higher-ups in your life proclaim something negative about you and vice versa (e.g., father, mother, wife, husband, teacher, pastor…)
  • curses that you have imposed on yourself (written or verbal)
  • oaths and wishes that bind people
  • curses by servants of Satan
  • trusting in people alone is also a curse

This sermon series covers curses, how to break them and release blessings in your life.

Curses according to Deuteronomy 28:15-68

Read through the Bible passage Deuteronomy 28:15-28! It lists all the curses that can affect a person .

The curses according to Deut. 28:15-68 can be grouped as follows:

  1. Breakdown of the mind / emotional breakdown (= mental diseases)
  2. Repeated or chronic diseases, especially hereditary diseases
  3. Infertility, miscarriages and problems with sexual organs
  4. Divorce, broken families
  5. Permanent financial difficulties
  6. Being a frequent victim of accidents
  7. Unnatural, premature deaths and suicides in the family

One speaks of a curse when several of these problems are present, or when one or more problems tend to show up repeatedly in your life.

In any case, three actions must be undertaken to transform the curses into blessings:

  1. Repentance and purification
  2. Revocation or annulment
  3. Declaration or confession, that is, the replacement of the curse with the blessing associated with the Word of God

The next chapter in this sermon series will highlight the topic of repentance and purification.
